Farewell google reader… We can deal without it

It has been announced that Google is about to close some services, especially Google reader, which is a service allowing you to read RSS feeds. Of course, this is not the only one RSS reader, but still, the sobriety of the design and the specificities were clear. But we don’t have to worry, many others are ready to host our feeds in order to read them.

There are many solutions when you want to find a way to read an RSS feed. First, you can read the code in XML format. Not very user friendly… That is why many readers have appeared, in order to make the reading more practical. It has been 10 years that Google reader was born. Before and between the creation of the service by the Mountain View company and now, RSS readers existed but didn’t have the same audience. On another hand, Google decided to stop offering this service because there are less and less people using this service. A petition is already online to prevent Google from stopping this service. The other solution could be to give the source code to a community who would update it when it is necessary.

Apple greenwashes its products

iPod_A
Apple is often perceived as a non environment-friendly firm. In fact, among all the trends that Apple surfs on,  ecology wasn’t as much used as a topic as right now. It is time for the company to catch up with the « green trend ».
While the iPhone 5 benefited from a huge advertisment campaign  the new iPod and iPod Touch were launched with bigger discretion and less noise in the media.
It is quite likely that for this reason Apple decided to test its next-generation greenwashing campain on these particular products.
The new trick consist of manufacturing a biodegradable packaging for the iPod and iTouch Earpods.

Is the French national data protection commission an ennemy of the nation, as declared by Gilles Babinet?

Cnil
The 25th of June 2012, Gilles Babinet was nominated by Fleur Pellerin as « French representative of the digital champions program of the European Union ». He has recently declared: « the CNIL (French national data protection commission) is an enemy of the nation ». He also qualified the privacy’s protectors of « backward-lookers ».
Looking at his recent nomination, this posture may be surprising. The privacy is one of the biggest current issues, and it can not be excluded from the agenda, especially the one of an elected official.
But if we look more closely, his comments seem explicable, but not understandable at the same time.

Google Reader user? Say goodbye!

On March 13, 2013, Google announced the retirement of Reader in July.
“There are two simple reasons for this usage of Google Reader has declined, and as a company we’re pouring all of our energy into fewer products. We think that kind of focus will make for a better user experience” Official Google Reader Blog.

But, according to data from BuzzFeed Network, a set of tracked partner sites that collectively have over 300 million users, Google Reader is still a significant source of traffic for news and much larger one than Google+. Nevertheless, this data isn’t complete. Google Reader traffic became much harder to measure last year when Google began to default users to SSL encryption in such a way that masked referral data.
