Proxima Mobile, a European portal of mobile applications for citizens

First European portal offering services of general interest on mobile devices, mobile Proxima is a website designed to promote applications for mobile terminals with a collective and citizen interest. The portal is led by the Delegation on Internet Usage.
It has more than 100 mobile services and applications in various fields such as culture, education, seniors, employment, health, tourism and sustainable development. Those applications and devices have all been validated and labeled useful in the daily lives of citizens.

Indeed, the portal offers applications and services evaluated by a jury, which have to meet criteria defined by the regulation. Among the three major criteria, essential to be able to receive the Proxima Mobile label:

  • the nature of general interest , the quality and durability of the application or service
  • the fact that it is free for the users and the lack of publicity
  • the availability and the fact that it is user-friendly (ergonomic) for new users

Samsung is testing the 5G connection

Watching 3D movies on a smartphone through a cellular connection? That sounds like a vision of the future. The South Korean technology company Samsung is testing for the first time the technique by which this will be possible. The 5G connection will only be introduced in 2020.
After the introduction of mobile fourth generation (4G), the South Korean technology group Samsung prepares now the faster successor technology. It is the first time that a 5G wireless connection was build with success, the company said.

The South Korean company realized a transfer of data over a distance of two kilometers at a speed of one gigabit per second. The 4G technology, also known as LTE, that is available in Europe since 2011,comes to speeds of up to 100 megabits per second.

Corporate espionage at the british technology titan Dyson ?

An unproven Chinese spy in the middle of an industrial espionage scandal has been named as Dyson, the vacuum cleaner constructor, seeks the return of its top secret technology. Dyson claims Yong Pang, an engineer focusing on electric motors, was paid more than 13,000 EUR by a German competitor to pass on the technology, which is at the core of future product development.
They say that Bosch, which employs 70 times the number of staff across the world, then shared what it learned with their Chinese manufacturer. Pang was working as a senior motor-drive engineer at Dyson’s headquarters in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, from June 2010 until he was dismissed for gross misconduct in June last year, according to papers lodged with the High Court.
He had worked at Bosch from April 2006 to December 2008 and then went on to work for the international engine manufacturer Ricardo. An internet entry says he worked as an electric machine design engineer for Ricardo and lived in Ipswich, Suffolk.

The US Patent and Trademark Office formally issued a granted patent of Apple’s relating to the unibody MacBook Pro’s enclosure.
Apple’s VP of Industrial Design Jonathan Ive described the MacBook Pro’s patented design in 2011 this way: “the assembly may include an integral unified (e.g., homogenous) top case formed from a single part. The integral top case provides an enclosure, frame and cosmetic exterior of the portable computer. The integral top case also functions as the primary structure of the portable computer.
