Recours collectif contre Facebook : la nouvelle attaque de Max Schrems

L’étudiant autrichien vient de lancer un recours collectif à l’encontre de Facebook Irlande pour le non-respect de la réglementation européenne sur les données personnelles.
Max_Schrems_FB_360L’étudiant autrichien Max Schrems n’en est pas à sa première tentative. Sa bataille contre Facebook et d’autres géants du Web américains a commencé en 2010 lorsqu’il avait demandé à Facebook de lui envoyer toutes les données le concernant. Il reçut alors 1 200 pages. A partir de là, il devenu un activiste en matière de protection des données personnelles et a notamment créé le groupe « Europe versus Facebook » – la même année où il a déposé de nombreuses requêtes auprès de l’Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC), la CNIL Irlandaise – à l’encontre de Facebook. « Binge watching »

On connaissait déjà le « binge drinking », et le « le binge eating », le fait de boire ou manger le plus, et ce le plus rapidement possible, c’est aujourd’hui du « binge watching » que l’on parle. Avec l’arrivée imminente de Netflix en France, cette nouvelle tendance s’inscrit bien dans la durée.

L’expression est définie par le Oxford English Dictionary comme le fait de « regarder de multiples épisodes d’un programme de télévision à la suite, souvent au moyen de DVDs ou de streaming en ligne ». Le « binge watching » consiste donc à visionner des séries durant des heures, enchainant les épisodes jusqu’à même y passer des week-ends entiers. Le phénomène n’est pas nouveau puisqu’il existait déjà avec les coffrets DVD des séries entières, mais il se développe davantage avec la démocratisation des plateformes de streaming en ligne. Bing and Ask implement the “right to be forgotten”

On May 13, 2014, the European Court of Justice’s (ECJ) ruled against Google, imposing the implementation of the “right to be forgotten”. Since June 26, 2014, Google has begun dereferencing web pages at the request of its users. It is now the turn of other search engines to comply with the new European rule.

Though they have taken their time, the search engines Bing and Ask have decided to follow Google’s lead in enforcing the right to be forgotten. The implementation of this right by Ask and Bing ensues from users’ requests to have damaging content dereferenced by these search engines as well as Google. This controversial right was obviously meant to be applied by all search engines with a commercial activity in the EU. (suite…)

Dive into another world with virtual reality

Since Facebook bought Oculus Rift in March 2014 for $2 billion, it is clear where the future of Human-Computer Interaction is leading us to: Virtual Reality. If you never heard of Oculus Rift, imagine Snowboard goggles, but instead of lenses you have a HD LCD-Display. On this, you see a side-by-side (SBS) split screen. Together with a pair of lenses, these split images are overlaid and create a 3D effect. That’s it, put the headset on and you dive in your 3D virtual reality (works also for short sighted people up to 8 dioptre).

UK’s official singles chart now includes streaming

The number of times a song has been streamed is now officially part of the ranking process of a song in the United Kingdom.

From now on, alongside purchases and downloads, the Official Charts Company will consider the streaming of a song on platforms such as Spotify, Deezer, Napster, Rara, Xbox Music and Music Unlimited to determine its position in the singles chart.
This reform comes nine years after the last big reform to the UK singles chart which added legal downloads to the count. (suite…)

The “Anti-Amazon” Law finally voted

In a few months, Amazon won’t be able to offer free shipping for books in order to protect independent bookstores.
AmazonAfter an unanimous vote at the Senate, the French Parliament has finally adopted of June, the law project on the price of books on the Internet, called « anti-Amazon », prohibiting the combination of free shipping and a discount 5%.
