3D printer used to save lives

Despite all this talk about the plastic guns that can be created by a 3D printer, this incredible technology can also accomplish extraordinary achievements in medicine. In fact, a tiny airway splint was created by a 3D printer and saved a three-month-old baby’s life.

Kaiba was born with a rare respiratory condition, affecting about 1 of 2.200 babies, which caused his airways to collapse and the loss of the ability to breathe on his own.  Despite the fact that he was intubated, he needed to be resuscitated on a daily basis. According to the mother, “quite a few doctors said he had a good chance of not leaving the hospital alive« .

Cyber-attack on a Lithuanian news portal

During the 2013 Eurovision song contest, the Lithuanian websiteDelfi.lt revealed rigged voting from Lithuania giving extra votes to Russia. Obviously it is not cricket and not a good omen for Lithuania which will take over the EU presidency soon…cedric

The revelation of such news had relative impacts on the Internet in Lithuania.
Indeed, a threatening email was sent to editors of the DELFI website jeopardising them if they did not remove the article dealing with the vote-rigging scandal of the Eurovision song contest. However, the editors decided not to budge. As a consequence, DELFI was subjected to a « distributed denial of service » (DDOS) attack, which means a great deal of bogus requests made the web pages and other services which are hosted on the targeted servers not available to the rest of the world.

L’employeur est-il responsable des actes commis par son salarié sur internet?

Dans un arrêt du 13 mars 2006, la cour d’appel d’Aix en Provence a retenu la responsabilité de l’employeur du fait de l’activité de l’un de ses salariés sur internet.
Le salarié, employé d’une grande société de télécommunication, avait développé et mis en ligne, depuis son lieu de travail et grâce aux outils mis à sa disposition par son employeur, un site internet « particulièrement virulent à l’égard de la société d’autoroute Escota ».
A la découverte de ce site, la société Escota a engagé une procédure judiciaire à l’encontre du salarié, de son employeur et de l’hébergeur du site. (suite…)

Fujitsu Laboratories has developed a next generation of interface, which can accurately detect the users’ finger and what it is touching, creating an interactive touch screen, like a system, using objects in the real word

This new interface is called FMA1127 – a touch sensor controller that converts capacitance generated between the human body and a conductive touch pad to digital data without any analog signal processing. Touch sensor technology compares reference and sensor input impedances to detect touch – all in the digital domain.
