Finnish game studio Rovio, has announced the official launch date for “Angry Birds Go!”, the company’s new 3D racing game.
The company has released a gameplay trailer for “Angry Birds Go!,” which will arrive for Android, Apple, Windows Phone and BlackBerry on December the 11th, a few days before Christmas. The new game will be free to play on all platforms for the first time in history.
While previous “Angry Birds” games were related to complex physics puzzles that required the player to catapult the titular creatures from one side of a level to another to demolish barriers and solve puzzles, “Angry Birds Go!” is a trend reversal for the franchise.
As the teaser trailer shows, the new game belongs strongly in the “kart racing” category – first popularized by the legendary Nintendo 64 game “Mario Kart.” Although driving around a racetrack a few times, you also can collect a variety of cartoony power-ups that you can use to accelerate your vehicle or fight with any other karts unlucky enough to get in your way.
“Feel the rush as you fling those freewheeling birds and piggies down the track at breakneck speed, with plenty of twists and turns in a thrilling race to the finish line!” says Rovio in a blog post. “But look out for hazardous roads, mischievous opponents riding your tail, and special powers to put the race leader behind the pack. And go from soapbox car to supercar by upgrading your ride!”
“Plus, the Angry Birds world comes alive in rich, colorful 3D for the first time ever! So you can see the birds and pigs from every angle and experience Piggy Island in an amazing new way!”
Rovio also announced new partnerships with companies like Hasbro, Tigerprint, Fashion UK and Leomil for a wide variety of Angry Birds themed merchandise (clothing, accessories, greeting cards, confectionary and poster books).
