When European elections meets Facebook

« I like », « I do not like », « I vote »: through this temporary new Facebook function, European elections immerse themselves in social networks. Users have the opportunity to share their vote on the platform and encourage their friends to vote too. Will this button help to reduce the abstention rate?

Last Sunday, the European citizens had the opportunity to vote to elect national representatives of their country in the European Parliament. Voting is compulsory in some countries whereas in other countries the legislature is free regarding the vote. To encourage people to take an interest in politics, Facebook has decided to introduce in its algorithm a « Vote » button.
After testing the « I’m a Voter » button in 2010 and 2012 in the United States, Facebook has decided to integrate this feature in Europe for the European elections. Google Reader user? Say goodbye!

On March 13, 2013, Google announced the retirement of Reader in July.
“There are two simple reasons for this usage of Google Reader has declined, and as a company we’re pouring all of our energy into fewer products. We think that kind of focus will make for a better user experience” Official Google Reader Blog.

But, according to data from BuzzFeed Network, a set of tracked partner sites that collectively have over 300 million users, Google Reader is still a significant source of traffic for news and much larger one than Google+. Nevertheless, this data isn’t complete. Google Reader traffic became much harder to measure last year when Google began to default users to SSL encryption in such a way that masked referral data.

Pinterest : new tool to target more businesses

The content sharing platform Pinterest has launched its new analytic tool for businesses. Pinterest itself says that they want to help their users understand which content people find most interesting. It is available for free since the 12th march, but only for the accounts with a verified website.

Launched one year ago, Pinterest already counts among the most used social networks in the world. The site is especially popular among women aged 25-44.

Trade tweets for treats with Kellogg’s Tweet Shop

If celebrities can earn thousands of dollars for tweeting about a company, why should we do it for free? Well, with Kellogg’s ephemeral tweet shop, people can at least get a bag of crisps for doing the same.

In fact, from September 20th to September 28th, Kellogg’s opened the world’s first “tweet shop” in Soho, London, to launch its latest Special K range of Cracker Crisps, where people can pay for food with social currency.
It means that, people entering this shop, can choose between the 3 tweets on the tweet menu, or create their own (and of course) “positive” tweet and send them to their followers, adding the hash tag #tweetshop in exchange for a free bag of crisps.
