Spectacle numérique au Parlement de Bretagne

Le Parlement de Bretagne trône au cœur de la ville de Rennes, fier et rempli d’histoire. En 2012, la municipalité décide de « profiter » de ce monument pour développer le tourisme et proposer une expérience innovante, au long de trois étés.
« Rendez-vous Place du Parlement« , tel était l’intitulé 2014, dernière année de représentation de ce spectacle proposant d’ « embarquer le spectateur dans un voyage poétique, ludique et numérique ». Pendant l’été, les rennais, bretons ou touristes de passage ont eu l’opportunité de s’arrêter une trentaine de minutes et découvrir Rennes et son agglomération d’une autre manière.

Cette année étant le 500e anniversaire de la disparition d’Anne de Bretagne (Reine de France à la fin du XVe siècle), on retrouve cette figure emblématique de l’Histoire de Bretagne, changeant de look au fil des siècles, pour arriver à notre époque. (suite…)

Previously, we’ve seen what is digital art, who are the actors of this specific market and how it is valorized. In this part, let’s have a look at the different technologies attached to digital art : interaction, motion capture, augmented reality and 3D-printing.

Digital art obviously uses new technologies to develop its kind of creativity from interaction to augmented reality, from coding to 3D-printing. All of the seven arts can be transformed into digital art thanks to these technologies.

« Binge watching »

On connaissait déjà le « binge drinking », et le « le binge eating », le fait de boire ou manger le plus, et ce le plus rapidement possible, c’est aujourd’hui du « binge watching » que l’on parle. Avec l’arrivée imminente de Netflix en France, cette nouvelle tendance s’inscrit bien dans la durée.

L’expression est définie par le Oxford English Dictionary comme le fait de « regarder de multiples épisodes d’un programme de télévision à la suite, souvent au moyen de DVDs ou de streaming en ligne ». Le « binge watching » consiste donc à visionner des séries durant des heures, enchainant les épisodes jusqu’à même y passer des week-ends entiers. Le phénomène n’est pas nouveau puisqu’il existait déjà avec les coffrets DVD des séries entières, mais il se développe davantage avec la démocratisation des plateformes de streaming en ligne. Since the beginning of time, art fascinates, surprises, leaves speechless, provokes questioning, takes us on journeys, stirs us up and sometimes even revolts us. Despite this ability to play with our emotions, the artistic community always want to go further, especially with the growing era of digital.
Digital art 1
We can consider that digital is serving art but can we really talk of digital art ? Many debates are taking place around this subject. Indeed, it is quite difficult to find one of the seven artistics disciplines “undigitalised” : music, dance, painting or even literature, all of them are connected to the present world. It is necessary to highlight the difference between digital art and contemporary art. Although similar in many points, there is an undisputable difference : the “systematic” use of an informatic tool. A digital work of art can be a contemporary one but the opposite can only be true if there is the use of a digital tool. (suite…)

Better access to online music in Europe?

While aiming at better access to online music in Europe ,the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament adopted a new directive on collective management of copyright and multi-territorial licensing of rights in musical works for online use in the single market. The Directive was published on 20 March 2014 in the EU Official Journal. It entered into force on 9 April 2014 and Members States have to transpose the Directive into domestic law by 10 April 2016 at the latest.

At this time, a lot of websites forbid consumers to download music or eBooks if they don’t live in the country where the website is based. This is legal. Protection of an author’s rights is often given as a reason. This is the case for La Fnac or Amazon. This situation hinders the realization of a real single market. The aim of the directive is to improve management of copyright and cross-border licensing of online music. Online retailers and music streaming services won’t have to obtain a copyright license in every EU member state. With this new legal framework, they will be able to get them from collective management organizations which work across borders.  Concerning authors, it will ensure that their rights are better protected and their royalties paid more quickly.
