What if Picasso or Van Gogh could paint a portrait of you? Or capture a moment of your holiday on their canvas? Today this is possible thanks to two Bulgarian IT specialists (Georgi Stoyanov and Nikola Irinchev) who created Lucid – the application that allows any photo on your phone to have the style of some of the most famous artists. For this purpose, the application uses highly innovative technology for artificial intelligence developed by the Bulgarian team, which simulates the way the brain of the respective artist works.
The IT specialists were following the trends in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning for years in order to be able to build a truly innovative solution changing the way we create and share visual content. Lucid takes virtually your photo and blends it with the style of a famous artist, inspired by his popular painting. The result is magical, and the proof is the huge interest for the application.
The two Bulgarians have already successful careers in some of the largest software corporations worldwide, but they prefer to work together on their own business. After several start up projects behind, Lucid is their latest challenge that combines their interest in areas such as AI (artificial intelligence), neural networks and machine learning with a very practical idea focused on the final user.
For now, the team is experimenting with the styles of the painters – Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Wassily Kandinsky and others. They are adding new painting styles constantly. The application allows the users to virtually create their own piece of art. The application is user friendly and very easy to operate. The user simply chooses a photo from their archive and selects a preferred style of an artist and in minutes the user receives the finished “painting”.
As for the business model of the startup:   the users can use the app for free, but they are charged if they want an image with super high resolution or without the logo of the application. Currently Lucid is attracting risky investments. The team plans to add soon a feature for creating artistic videos that will allow each clip to be changed according to the style of the preferred artist.
