In this light, artificial intelligence doesn’t steal decision-making from humans, it shifts the ground beneath their feet.
European institutions have caught on. They’re deep in talks about regulating AI, focusing on human oversight, transparency, and accountability especially where justice is concerned. The point isn’t to put the brakes on progress. It’s to make sure new tech doesn’t trample on fundamental rights. Law should guide technology, not the other way around.
At bottom, this debate isn’t just about software or court efficiency. It’s about how societies choose, and whom they trust. Algorithms can organize facts, predict trends, help with analysis. But justice isn’t math. It needs context, moral judgment, a sense of lived experience things you can’t code into a spreadsheet. The real challenge isn’t picking between humans and machines. It’s figuring out how technology can support justice without hollowing it out.
