Bing and Ask implement the “right to be forgotten”

On May 13, 2014, the European Court of Justice’s (ECJ) ruled against Google, imposing the implementation of the “right to be forgotten”. Since June 26, 2014, Google has begun dereferencing web pages at the request of its users. It is now the turn of other search engines to comply with the new European rule.

Though they have taken their time, the search engines Bing and Ask have decided to follow Google’s lead in enforcing the right to be forgotten. The implementation of this right by Ask and Bing ensues from users’ requests to have damaging content dereferenced by these search engines as well as Google. Après l’échec du partenariat Yahoo/Microsoft, un tandem Yahoo/Facebook pour la création d’un search engine ?

Selon The Sunday Telegraph, des discussions seraient en cours entre Yahoo et Facebook concernant la création d’un nouveau moteur de recherche pour le célèbre réseau social.

Les deux géants de l’Internet ont déjà eu l’occasion par le passé de travailler ensemble sur de petits projets, telle que l’intégration de Yahoo dans Facebook et vice versa.
Facebook n’a jamais caché le fait de vouloir améliorer son moteur de recherche, Mark Zuckerberg estimant que le réseau social est positionné de manière susceptible à répondre aux questions des utilisateurs. Elargir son champ d’expertise aux moteurs de recherche permettrait peut-être à Facebook de pérenniser un peu plus longtemps sa position de force en se rendant multitâche, mais aussi de cibler davantage ses publicités…
