Amazon swoops in and acquires Twitch despite Youtube’s effort

It’s finally official, after several rumours about Twitch’s acquisition, the popular live-streaming website will be part of the ever-growing list of companies swallowed by industry giants. However rumours were wrong about which company was going to seal the deal.

In a way, the rumours made sense, Twitch’s video-based content fits nicely with Youtube’s business. But in the end, and despite Youtube’s effort, Amazon will buy all remaining shares of Twitch which amount to about $970 million in cash. (suite…)

Delivery reinvented: Amazon is testing drones in India

What do you think about getting your parcel 90 minutes after you placed your order online? ? It may become a common way to send parcels in few years according to Amazon. The online retailer presented “Prime Air” in December 2013, its new delivery service by drone. The system will be soon tested in India.

India is the perfect test area for commercial drones:
A lot of obstacles were in Amazon’s way in December 2013, when they presented their new idea. These impediments were mostly present  on the legal side. In the United States or other countries,  there are strict regulations regarding to remote controlled pilotless aircrafts.
Strict rules foresee that each drone needs federal approval to be allowed to flight. Hence, it is not possible to test it in the US for now. That’s why Amazon decided to launch the test phase in India. India is attractive because the country has fewer regulations on the unmanned aerial devices. The e-commerce giant wants to begin in Mumbai and Bangalore, where its warehouses are located. (suite…)

Washington is suing Amazon

Amazon doesn’t want to obey the increasing regulatory pressure. Instead of agreeing to an undisclosed settlement with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Internet merchant will face the jury.
Amazon will be brought into court in the U.S. by the FTC. The consumer protection authority complained that minors are allowed to make purchases via the Amazon’s mobile apps without their parents’ consent. The FTC is seeking a court order against the company imposing refunds to the affected families. The complaining parents said that their children spent hundreds of dollars without their consent. Amazon shipping fee, from free to a token penny

 

The American retailer Amazon had to bow to a new law and began charging shipping .

A new French law, which went into effect Thursday morning, forbids online retailers to apply the 5% discount allowed by the government and offer shipping. This law, unofficially labeled “The anti-Amazon law” is aimed at protecting local bookstores from unfair competition.

The “Anti-Amazon” Law finally voted

In a few months, Amazon won’t be able to offer free shipping for books in order to protect independent bookstores.
AmazonAfter an unanimous vote at the Senate, the French Parliament has finally adopted of June, the law project on the price of books on the Internet, called “anti-Amazon”, prohibiting the combination of free shipping and a discount 5%. Amazon a présenté au début du mois de mai la nouvelle fonctionnalité permettant de faire ses courses sur Twitter.

Amazon: finally a smartphone?

For years, rumours have circulated about Amazon, the most famous pure player, working on a 3D smartphone. Last week, the rumour became a reality. At a press conference in Seattle, the headquarters of Amazon, Jeff Bezos has set June 18, 2014 as the date for the presentation of a new tool. Is it for the 3D Smartphone that Amazon has been talking about for years?
A video on YouTube encourages users to think it could be the presentation of the new 3D Smartphone. In this video, users move the head from one side to the other and throw comments like: “It’s amazing, it’s something I’ve never seen…”. This clip must surely refer to the smartphone’s user interface.

People often associate the 3D with glasses. But on this video people use the device without glasses and they realize turning their head that it is a device in three dimensions.
