Artificial Intelligence: Why It Is So Dangerous

Many people think that artificial intelligence is dangerous. As strange as it may seem, one of the biggest businessmen, Elon Musk, keeps saying that this technology needs a legal framework.

Artificial intelligence?

Artificial intelligence is « intelligence exhibited by machines, rather than humans or other animals ».

We can list as artificial intelligence, chatbots, some robots which can try to do music like the Beatles or speak to people as if they were psychologists and so on.

Opinion of some specialists

As we know, Elon Musk, who is the CEO of Tesla, said that artificial intelligence needs a strict legal framework. Stephen Hawking, who is an English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, author and Director of Research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology within the University of Cambridge, thinks the same.

Unlike them, some people like Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder and CEO of Facebook, think that artificial intelligence is not dangerous for humans.

The reason of the danger

For those who told that artificial intelligence is dangerous, the reason of this danger is that artificial intelligence, which is designed by humans, could overstep these latter.

Moreover, Stephen Hawking said that for instance the artificial intelligence could be a danger in the future if information systems could improve themselves (without humans).

For him, humans pass their time improving whereas machines respect Moore’s law ; it means that machines can double their ability in only 18 months.

On the whole, specialists are afraid of being controlled by machines although they support the development of the artificial intelligence. Indeed, they just want to make sure that this field will have a strict legal framework.
