These new ecological and social search engines work exactly in the same way as the other engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing. They earn money thanks to on-line advertising and  sponsored links, which they put back then in a cause of their own. Among these various causes, we can find the protection of the Brazilian forest, the help of associations with ecological purposes, planting trees or financing projects…
Besides being environmentally friendly, these platforms also aim to be respectful of the Internet users private life by keeping no IP address and deactivating by default the advertising tracking.
According to the creators of these new search engines, they are as successful as the other search engines. Indeed, for each query of the users, they question many tools and realize the synthesis with better results.
Ecosia.org is a search engine which puts back 53 % of its advertising income in The Nature Conservancy, an American organization which has a reforestation project in Brazil. By using this search engine you will see every day the number of standing trees increase. At the moment it is more than 5 million trees that were plant thanks to Ecosia.
Ecogine.org is in partnership with Google and puts back 100 % of this income to French associations which defend ecological causes.
Lilo.org works on the same principle than Ecogine and suggests to the Internet users choosing the projects they want to help.

Will you adopt a more ecological behavior by using this new search engine?
