On February 1st, during the Q4 2016 earnings call, Mark Zuckerberg says in front of investors : “I see video as a megatrend. […] That’s why I’m going to keep putting video first across our family of apps.”
Through the years, Facebook innovates to find new ideas, or imitates other kind of strategies to retain users and grow their market shares.
For instance, Instagram is held by Facebook and launched “Stories” features like on Snapchat.
Facebook is also preparing an app for long livestream video on the compatible TVs equipped with Apple TV or Fire TV devices. This new app – and Mark Zuckerberg’s words – shows that Facebook stays focus on the video and will invest a lot in there.
Why Facebook Is Investing on Video ?
Nowadays, the company is nearly reaching 2 billion of users writing down what they “like”, where they travel or work and so on…
Hence, Facebook knows a lot of things about us and can create targeted ads which correspond to our wishes or needs. That’s why, in the future, Mark Zuckerberg would do the same thing on TV to deliver the right advertisment to the right people.
This strategy focusing on video is definitely not a good news for Snapchat, Youtube or Netflix even if the latter is not directly in competition with Facebook yet.

According to CNBC, Facebook is currently in good health. Ads revenue shot up 53% in the last quarter of 2016. Moreover, Reuters said that at the same moment the company earned 8.51 billion dollars.
After such statistics that every company may envy, it portends that Facebook will stay on the landscape as one of the biggest company in the world for a couple of years.
